This morning I am making a couple of loaves of bread, one for us, one for an elderly relative. Food gifts are amazingly comforting both as the giver and as the recipient.
I use this recipe from my 1997 copy of Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook.
It’s well loved!
I used evaporated milk(diluted 50% with water)this time, heating a cup of it 40 seconds in a heatproof measuring cup then mixing it with the remaining 1 1/4 cup. I used honey instead of sugar and added the salt and vegetable oil(substitution for butter/shortening)to the warm milk.
The yeast it mixed with the flour then combined with the wet ingredients. I then mix in the remaining flour gradually.
Kneading time:
Time for a raise(seems bread is about money…bread,dough, (knead/need)raise)lol!
To be continued…
